More places worth considering

We are slowly adding full guides for these. For now, a few quiet corners we love and return to:

Umbria, Italy. Tuscany's quieter neighbour, with hilltop towns, holm-oak woods, and far fewer crowds. Easy slow living around Spoleto, Trevi, and the Valnerina.

The Scottish Highlands. Long summer light, empty glens, and sea lochs. Cool-weather swaps for walkers who do not mind a passing shower.

The Aeolian Islands, Italy. Volcanic islands off Sicily where cars barely feature. Slow boat days, caper fields, and simple food, best well outside August.
